There’s something special about working with a family-owned business in your community—and it’s no different when it comes to working with a company for HVAC service! It’s about more than just getting your air conditioner fixed or your furnace serviced by just another company; it’s about the experience, the connection, and the care that goes into every single job when you work with a family-owned company.
As a family-owned company ourselves, we understand how this approach makes a difference for customers. Here’s why choosing a family-owned HVAC service can mean better care for your home:
1. Personalized Service
One of the biggest advantages of working with a family-owned HVAC company is the personalized service. When you use a larger corporation, you might feel like just another number, but when you work with a family-owned business, they’ll take the time to get to know you.
Understanding the unique needs of each client is important. Whether it’s remembering your system’s quirks or tailoring services to your preferences, local family owned businesses are committed to providing a level of personalization you won’t find anywhere else.
2. Accountability and Trust
When you work with a family-owned business, you’re dealing with people who have a personal stake in the company’s reputation. Just as you feel accountable for the work that you do, it’s important to be able to count on your HVAC servicer to be accountable for their work.
Family-owned companies don’t just aim to meet expectations; they strive to exceed them! That’s because their name—and their family’s legacy—is on the line. When you live and work in the community you serve, it’s important to build your business on trust and stand behind every service provided so that if there’s ever an issue, it’ll be made right—no questions asked.
3. Quality Over Quantity
The “bigger” companies tend to focus on scale, and in a world where bigger is often synonymous with better, family-owned businesses focus on quality over quantity. Family businesses, like ours, aren’t focused on cranking out as many jobs as possible; we’re all about doing each job right.
Be sure you’re working with a team that takes the time to ensure that every installation, repair, or maintenance service is done to the highest standards. We’re not satisfied until you are, and that commitment to quality is what sets business like ours apart from the rest.
4. Direct Communication
When you call a family-owned HVAC company, you’re probably going to speak directly with someone who’s part of the business, not just a customer service rep reading from a script. Even better, you’re often speaking with someone who’s been with the company for years—someone who cares about your satisfaction and is empowered to make decisions.
Human to human connection is important, and having a direct line of communication to the people who will be working in your home ensures that your needs are not only understood but addressed promptly. Having a direct, no-nonsense approach means faster solutions and better customer experiences.
5. Community Support and Involvement
Family-owned businesses are often deeply rooted in their communities, and that connection drives a level of service you won’t find with larger companies. These businesses in your community are way more than just a business—they represent your neighbors.
They care about the community and are actively involved in local events and initiatives. By choosing a family-owned HVAC service, you’re supporting a business that gives back to the community and values long-term relationships over short-term gains.
Choosing a Non-Family-Owned Company Will Cost You
While many HVAC companies can provide competent service, there are real disadvantages to working with a large, non-family-owned corporation for your HVAC needs. For starters, these companies often prioritize the volume of jobs completed over the quality of jobs performed, leading to rushed jobs, missed details, and impersonal service.
When decisions are driven by profit margins rather than customer satisfaction, you’ll find yourself dealing with incomplete jobs, shortcuts, and aren’t likely to see a technician who is familiar with your home’s specific needs.
Plus, larger companies often lack the flexibility to go above and beyond in ways that smaller, local family owned businesses can. When you’re just another customer number in a huge database full of other customers, it’s easy for you and your project to get lost in the shuffle. Family-owned businesses are able to ensure that every customer receives the dedicated attention they deserve.

Meet the Family Behind Supreme PHC
Supreme PHC isn’t just a company—it’s our family’s legacy. Here’s a little bit about the people who make it all happen:
James R. Isbell, Founder
James, known better to friends and family as Jim, was born in 1930 and together with wife, Maxine, raised their four sons in Terre Haute where he himself was raised. He started Supreme PHC with a vision to provide top-notch HVAC services while staying true to the values he was raised with: honesty, integrity, and compassion.
Jim taught son, Steve, the ins and outs of the business until he began his well deserved retirement in Florida. Jim passed away in February of 2019, but his spirit lives on every single day in the business he built from the ground up with those core family families.
Steve Isbell, Co-Owner and Vice President
Steve grew up working at Supreme as a teenager, and went on to graduate from Rose Hulman in 1978 as a Mechanical Engineer. He’s also a licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio! He became the official second generation owner of Supreme in 1982. Since then, he’s lived in West Terre Haute raising 3 children, and is now the proud grandfather of five grandkids. He enjoys hunting, fishing and traveling the country in his RV with his wife, Donna. Steve enjoys working with his son, Wes, to continue the legacy of the company.
Wes Isbell, Co-Owner and President
Wes grew up working at Supreme as a teenager, and continued to do so all the way through college. He has worked both in the field as well as in the warehouse, earning his way up doing various tasks throughout the entire company. After graduating from ISU in 2007 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Wes moved into the office and began his role as Vice President. Today, Wes serves as our President and 3rd generation co-owner of Supreme.
Like his father, Wes was born and raised in West Terre Haute, where he currently lives with his wife, Danielle and their twin boys, Ethan & Owen. Wes and his family are avid outdoors people who enjoy hunting, fishing and exploring the National Parks all over the country with their camper in tow, taking in the different scenery, sites, and experiences.
